Ventnor angling and social club awards presentation evening was well attended by members and guests who showed their appreciation to retiring chairman Garreth Butt when he was presented with the clubman of the year award. Butt w ho has served as chairman for seven years then presented his successor Jon Benham with trophies for the first and second best specimens of the year as well as the winner of the boat open competition and the most specimens over 50%.  The top trophy winner was Tony Burt who picked up a total of seven trophies including best flat fish, second in boat league, heaviest fish in boat completion and the heaviest Wrasse. His wife Debbie Burt was the ladies champion for shore and boat and won the boat fishing race team with myself. Damian Geldard was shore champion for the second year running and Jason Warne won the boat league. The junior league winner was Jake Bravery who also had the heaviest fish in the junior section and his brother Ryan received the junior triers trophy. Liam Buckler won junior awards for the heaviest Pouting, best specimen, heaviest bag in competition and second in the league. Daniel Perfect took second in the Christmas competition and awards for the heaviest Bass and Geoff Thorner won the club knockout trophy. Thorner also took the shore fishing race team trophy with Dave Abrook who also won the Christmas competition trophy. Lee Danson took second in the shore league and the heaviest Skate trophy. Michael Wyatt was the highest placed member in the summer open and Richard Bravery took the second best Skate award. The services to the club award went to Alan Bravery and Shaun Graham won the heaviest Conger and Tony Simpson won the wager Flounder trophy for the highest percentage with three to count and had the best specimen in the sweep competition. There were three new club records recorded last year one by Geoff Butt with a shore caught Silver Eel of 1lb 12oz and two by Jon Benham with a shore and boat caught Thick lipped Mullet of 6lb and 4lb 4oz respectively.
